Formed in 1982 in Münster, Germany, Alphaville was the brainchild of keyboardist and songwriter Marian Gold, guitarist Frank Peterson, and vocalist David Fairstein. The band's early work was heavily influenced by post-punk and new wave, but they soon found their footing in the synth-pop genre.
