The EDZ file format is a dedicated archive structure developed to simplify the exchange and integration of rich device master data. At its core, an EDZ file acts as a compressed container that bundles all necessary information pertaining to a specific manufacturer’s part or product line. Rather than requiring engineers to manually input technical specifications, dimensions, and connection points, a single EDZ file aggregates XML parts data, schematic macros, function templates, 2D or 3D graphical representations, and additional CAx data. When an EDZ file is imported into EPLAN's parts management database, it instantly populates the system with perfectly mapped digital twins of real-world hardware.
