At the time of its release, Chronicles of the Ghostly Tribe was one of the most expensive Chinese films ever made, with a budget reportedly exceeding $30 million. Director Lu Chuan hired international VFX teams, including the Oscar-winning effects house responsible for Life of Pi , to create the titular monsters. The result is a mixed bag: some sequences depict stunningly realistic CGI creatures, while others suffer from the uncanny valley. However, the sheer scale of the underground world—vast caverns, glowing fungi, and the titular tower—is genuinely impressive.

The movie was directed by Vikram Bhatt, a well-known Indian film director, and produced by Vishal Sir.
